Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get help on using ProjectQuest?

Please look at the PQHelp "node" for quick general information. To review the complete manual online, click the icon in the upper-right corner of ProjectQuest.

How can I change my password?

You can easily change your user password and many other options by clicking the plus (+) to the left of your name, and then clicking the + next to User Configuration.

How can turn off the automatic email messages?

To control which email notifications you receive, click the plus (+) next to your name in the left frame of ProjectQuest, then click the + next to User Configuration and select Email Options. Clear the appropriate boxes. Click [Next>].

An alternative method is to redirect all email messages from pqadmin@gfnet.com to a new folder in your email software, see below.

I don't want to turn off the automatic emails. How can I manage all of those ProjectQuest messages?

You may not want to turn off the automatic emailing feature, but you also don't want ProjectQuest email to monopolize your inbox. Your mail client (e.g., Outlook, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, etc.) should have a way of filtering and organizing incoming mail so that it goes in a subfolder rather than taking up space in your main inbox.

How do I download a file?

To download a file, click the file name. Make the appropriate selection under the Actions heading on the File Info tab. You will usually want to right-click on "Download a read-only copy of this file." File Info tab

How do I upload multiple files or entire directories into the project folders?

You can drag and drop multiple file selections or even entire directories from Windows Explorer into the multi-file upload box. Select the Multi-file upload icon, and then simply drag and drop the files to be uploaded into it from Windows Explorer. If you do not have a multi-file upload icon, you will need to install the plug-in for it, see "Viewers and Plug-ins." Multi-file Upload button location

Why Don't I See the CAD Files? (Do I need to install anything?)

Yes. Under "Viewers and Plug-ins" you should install the first two: InQuest EasyView 2.0 R0 and InQuest Multi-File Uploader (Web Install). Install them by simply clicking on the link. You will be guided through the process. Note: If you have previously installed the ActiveProject AutoCAD viewer, the new ProjectQuest viewer may disable it. Also, it is a known problem with ProjectQuest that xref's may not show up properly but InQuest is working on a fix. Please let me know if you experience any additional problems at csmythe@gfnet.com.

Why don't xrefs show up in the viewer?

ProjectQuest will only scan your AutoCAD drawing for reference files if you upload using the multi-file upload method, described below. You should always use the multi-file upload for any drawing where reference files are a concern, even if it is a single file.
References tab

How do I assign or change security or access for my file uploads?

When uploading files, the default security setting is to give access to everyone who already has access to the folder you are in.

Users shown in brackets represent "groups" of users. Everyone working on the project is a member of the project group. For example:
[GF_general] represents all users in Gannett Fleming.

To limit access to specific people, in Step 2 of the process, use the Control+click or Shift+click method to select the appropriate users or groups, and then press the left (bottom) arrow button to move them to the "SmartFolder Users/Groups" box. Be careful that you do not inadvertently deny access to the wrong people!

Upload New File dialog box

Note: If you uncheck "Send notifications to all users given access," you will be prompted in the next step to select users to whom email notices should be sent.

After a file has been uploaded, the file permissions can be changed at any time by clicking the button, selecting the "Change File Security" option, and clicking Next.
