Uploading & Downloading Files

Downloading Files

  • To download a file, click the file name.
ProjectQuest Screen
  • Make the appropriate selection under the Actions heading on the File Info tab. You will generally want to right-click on "Download a read-only copy of this file."
  • You will be prompted to save the file to your hard drive. Be sure to take note of the location of the file.
File Info tab

Uploading Files

  • Use the Upload button to send a file to ProjectQuest. Dialog boxes will guide you through the rest of the process.
Upload button location

Step 1: Select the type of file you are uploading, which is almost always "General File."

Step 2: Select the group and or individuals who need access to the file(s). To limit access to specific people, in Step 2 of the process, use the Control+click or Shift+click method to select the appropriate users or groups, and then press the left (bottom) arrow button to move them to the "SmartFolder Users/Groups" box. Be careful that you do not inadvertently deny access to the wrong people!

Tip: If you uncheck "Send notifications to all users given access," you will be prompted in the next step to select users to whom email notices should be sent.

Step 2 (Who to Notify): This dialog box only appears if you cleared the checkbox shown above. Move the names or groups from the right box to the left if you do NOT want them to receive an email notification. (This option is not available if you use the multi-file upload method.)
Step 3: Browse for the file to upload. Checking "automatically Zip on server" will cause ProjectQuest to offer both a regular and a zipped file when a user downloads it. This is useful for large files, to save download time. Comments that you add will be in the email notice and also permanently attached to the file and available for review by others.

Uploading multiple files or entire directories into the project

Note: Because this is an ActiveX plug-in, it will not work in Netscape, only Internet Explorer.

If you do not have a multi-file upload icon, you will need to install the plug-in for it, located under the "Viewers and Plug-ins" node in the left frame. Select InQuest Multi-File Uploader (Web Install). Install it by simply clicking on the link. You will be guided through the process. If you don't see the icon shown below on your toolbar, you have not loaded the plug-in.

You can drag and drop multiple file selections or even entire directories from Windows Explorer into the multi-file upload box. Select the Multi-file upload icon, and then simply drag and drop the files to be uploaded into it from Windows Explorer.

Open Windows Explorer and resize the windows so that you can see both Windows Explorer and the ProjectQuest session. Click the multi-file upload button in the ProjectQuest window. Wait a few seconds for a dialog box to open. In Windows Explorer, select the files you want, and DRAG with your mouse from Explorer to the window where it says "upload file list" and DROP. If the files are large, you should also check the "ZIP compress at server" to improve download time. Use "Allow Access to All" also unless you want to restrict access to certain individuals. Select Next to finish.

Note About AutoCAD XREFS

The multi-file uploader will scan any .dwg file it encounters for XREFS files. If it doesn't find an XREF that is attached, an icon with a red X over it may appear. It will still upload the selected file but you will not see any attached reference files when you view it online (because they are on your local computer).
